The A.R.D. equipment operates automatically upon mains blackout occurrence. It drives the hoist gear motor by means of a static frequency converter powered by a storage batteries bank, brings the car to the nearest floor and opens automatic doors.

During energency operation a special load sensing circit automaticaly choses the best travel direction in counterweighted lift systems, whenever an unbalance is detected between car load and counterweight.
